Nucleus

  1. I really enjoyed making this poster and creating a metaphor for the function of the nucleus. I found it really helpful to think of the nucleus from a non biological perspective and relate it to real life. I didn’t really realise all the different components of the nucleus and can now understand how each part assists in being the 'control centre'.

  2. Firstly, congratulations Claire on accepting the student role rep! YaY!!!
Secondly, Veronica I am glad you found this learning exercise valuable and that it helped you work out the parts of the nucleus and their respective functions.

Do you think you or someone else from your team could provide us of an overview of your understanding in more biological terms now?

  3. So in more biological terms I think of the nucleus as the brain, the control centre. It stores the DNA in the nucleoli. In addition to this the nucleus also controls the amount and types of proteins being synthesised, or in other terms made. This is important as proteins are significant for various functions in the human body.

  4. Great start & it's encouraging that you are using the blog as a learning resource. The role of the nuceloli is not quite correct as previously noted so it may be worthwhile having another look and clarifying this.

  5. Continuing on from my previous post.... have a look at where DNA and RNA are stored and what their functions are.
