Ribosomes

3 comments:

  1. Ribosomes are small round structures composed of ribosomal RNA (rRNA). Some ribosomes are are attached to the rough endoplasmic reticulum while others float freely. They are the site of protein synthesis. (Derived from Biology Subject Guide, 5th Edition, Ting. A, Yingda. L).

Ribosomes are assembled in the nucleolus, which are small dark spots found in the nucleus and then exported into the cytoplasm.

If ribosomes did not exist, protein synthesis would not be able to occur because ribosomes are not only the site for the synthesis of proteins, but also the translator and provider of raw materials. These things are necessary for the processes; translation and transcription, which make up the process of protein synthesis.

  2. Loved the analogy used by this group! Protein synthesis is really like a factory making 'products' (the proteins) for use all over the world (well maybe just the body) :P

  3. Well done guys. Could you tell us how the ribosomes perform the role of translation and transcription?
